There has been a lot of talk in the industry lately about a world wide phosphor
shortage, and what it will do to the cost of items that contain this rare earth
element. Namely fluorescent lamps, and related fixture components. There
are many explanations, and reasoning behind what is going on (Just Goggle
search “Phosphor Shortage”) and you will get more information than you know
what to do with.

What you need to know right now is, prices are going UP, and there is currently no relief in sight. Sylvania has announced a “Monthly” price increase until the market stabilizes. (We have also seen just about every other manufacturer follow suit that has a phosphor containing product.)
